More Information about the Conference

The 2023 Africa together conference will celebrate the remarkable milestones we have achieved as a continent. This annual event (of the African Society of Cambridge University, ASCU) has consistently consolidated human capacity development for the student
community.

This year, we seek to build resilience and competence across three major subthemes: Business, Leadership, and Creativity & Innovation. Ekhaya (a Zulu word meaning: "our home")figuratively reflects our dedication to recognizing authentic identity globally, celebrating our achievements and the determination to guarantee a desirable future for the African Continent.

The motto for this conference is; Forging our Path, which speaks to our sense of agency but crucially and relevantly also provokes us to come up with authentic solutions to face our 21st-century challenges. Last year, the Motto was Taking back Control; therefore, it’s only fitting that once Control has been returned, the next focus should be on how we will use it. Hence, we must create our manifesto for change based on our unique identity that we channel from home.

The Keynote address will focus on African cultural representation globally. It will highlight the milestones achieved in our quest to showcase our creative identity as well as what must be done to improve it. It will also provide insights into the future of the creative economy and assess the extent to which reclaiming our narratives can be leveraged as soft power.

Three exclusive interviews provide the chance for African business leaders, cultural icons, and politicians to go into detail about their careers and provide key and authentic insights into how they were able to achieve success. This format will provide the audience with never-before insights into our speakers’ lives and personal stories that will speak to the soul of Africa. The idea is that the speaker talks for 30 minutes and then there is 15 minutes of questions from the floor.

The panel will focus on the rise of small businesses in Africa and the entrepreneurial spirit that has driven new innovative technologies for the continent today. It also engages the creative pathways needed to identify business opportunities and the competence needed to harness them.

The panel will be focused on the management and growth of creative talents in the music and film industry. It would highlight aspects we have got right as a continent and what we must do to
consolidate our standing on a global scale.

The panel will focus on the increasing opportunities and challenges of international organisations in
improving Africa’s governance. It will present a diagnostic analysis of the challenges to governance that Africa has faced but also a prescriptive analysis of the path that we can take to overcome these challenges.

The ATC is a highly anticipated event at the University of Cambridge and the
global student community. Conversations had been instrumental in inspiring the
next generation of African Leaders. In the past, exemplary leaders like Governor
Ernest Addison, Bright Okpocha (Basket Mouth), Zeinab Badawi and Judy Sikuza
have graced the event with their presence. With your support and sponsorship, we are determined to consolidate this track record.
